Although there are many options for educating your student, some may not support the goals you have for your children or the values you are working to instill in them at home.

Here are some reasons you may want to consider Middletown Adventist School.

Christ Centered

It’s pretty easy to track things like academic progress or physical health—but when it comes to spiritual growth, that’s not so simple. Still, it’s the heart of everything we do.

It all starts with teachers and staff who genuinely love Jesus and are excited to share that love with students and their families. From there, we build in daily classroom worship and weekly chapel time. Our Bible classes are all about helping students grow in their own relationship with Jesus and develop a solid, Bible-based perspective on life.

But our Christian focus does not end with Bible class.  We believe the Bible is the inerrant word of God that explains God’s plan of salvation and outlines how we can live happy, fulfilled lives. As such, the Bible informs all of our learning, in every subject area.

Lastly, we ensure students get chances to live out their faith through service—whether that’s helping around school, supporting their church, or giving back to the community.

In the end, when we keep our focus on Christ, we see something amazing: students not only deepen their walk with Jesus, but they’re also better equipped to learn and succeed in every other area.

Learning Driven

Students in Adventist schools do better—and it shows.
A massive three-year study of over 51,000 students (from kindergarten through high school) found that kids in Adventist schools consistently score above the national average. This held true across all grade levels, school sizes, and subjects.

They don’t just meet expectations—they exceed them.
Even when researchers looked at how students should perform based on cognitive ability tests, Adventist school students still did better than expected.

And the longer they’re in these schools, the better they do.
One of the most eye-opening discoveries? Students who transferred into Adventist schools saw their test scores jump. The longer they stayed, the more they thrived.

Want to see how this plays out in our school?  Schedule a visit.  Our principal will first meet with you personally, and later you can see our school in action.

Character Focused

We believe a child’s connection to Jesus is foundational as they allow the Holy Spirit to shape them into Christians of character. However, we can help that process by giving students tools and resources for growing in:

  • integrity,
  • responsibility,
  • perseverance,
  • resilience, and
  • service to others.

In addition,  our parents tell us that some of the things they appreciate most is our partnership with them to nurture personal life skills in areas such as:

  • emotional intelligence,
  • leadership,
  • self-management,
  • an understanding of their value and worth as God’s creation, and
  • social intelligence in getting along with others.

As a small school we have the ability to work individually with students, not just on the three Rs, but on developing as a whole person.

Traditional Christian Values

Are you happy with what your child is learning in school?  As a Protestant Christian school we choose to focus on loving everyone while growing together to be more and more like Jesus.

While we are committed to teaching all the academic standards that students need to know at each grade level, we are not bound by state and federal mandates for curricula, admissions and other attitudes.  We will love and treat all students equally, but are not here to push or support a social agenda.

Multi-Grade Classrooms

Multi-grade classrooms have many benefits for students, even though they are not common.  This environment provides students with the opportunity to learn at their own pace across various subject areas, without the pressure of keeping up with or waiting for peers. This flexible structure allows each child to thrive academically and build confidence in their abilities. It also enables teachers to form deeper connections with students and better understand their unique learning styles.

Research highlights the benefits of “looping,” where students remain with the same teacher for multiple years. This approach has been shown to enhance academic performance, ease transitions between grade levels, and improve social development and collaboration. Moreover, the continuity fosters stronger teacher-student relationships, promotes a supportive learning environment, and cultivates a close-knit classroom community where students feel encouraged to think critically, take risks, and actively engage in their education.

A Fun, Safe Place to Learn

Our students love coming to school because so much fun stuff is happening here.

Off-campus learning –– We learn outside the classroom regularly with trips like: sports camp, snow skiing, the Exploratorium,  an elementary school music festival, Sutter’s Fort, caroling, music concerts, the zoo, ice skating, an overnight outdoor education program, and others.  While these don’t all happen every year, students are doing something interesting out of the classroom about once a month.

Engaging teaching  –– Our teachers put in extra effort to make lessons interesting and engaging.  These change from year to year but have included: Building a town in the classroom to learn about community helpers, a March Madness bracket with students promoting their chosen book, hatching eggs and raising chicks, planting garden starts, a year long travel theme complete with passports and plane tickets.

Music Education

Research has documented that music education helps students with learning in other subjects, especially math.  For this reason, and because it is one of God’s gifts, we offer a strong music program.  Our students participate in choir and also learn band instruments.  In some year’s our whole school produces a musical, such as “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Music Man,” and various Christmas musicals.

Daily PE Program

Research also tells us that moving bodies make for brains that are better able to absorb and remember information.  Although it is not common in other schools, we choose to have PE every day because it helps develop not only healthy bodies, but also healthier brains.  Students are better able to focus, think more clearly and remember better when they have daily exercise.  We incorporate PE daily to help students take advantage of these benefits.

A Community and Place to Belong

Our students and parents tell us how much they appreciate that our school is a safe and supportive community.  We come together for events, our supporting church members become stand-in grandparents, our parents get to know each other and our students create friendships for a. lifetime.

My kids were coming from the public school system and were very unsure about attending a new school, especially a private school. I told them to give it two weeks and see how they felt. Within a few days they were hooked and wanted to stay through the rest of their elementary school years. MAS has been such a great influence on their development, including social, spiritual, and academic. We are very blessed to have such a school.”
